Six Months Ago
I decided to re-open my blog. Recent changes in my home and health life demanded a change in career. Since that time I have learned quite a bit, but not nearly enough. Everyday there is something new to learn, digest, and hope to implement.
A few years ago a friend sent me an invite to join Facebook…it was not something that I was interested in at the time, and it took several promptings. After jumping in I have learned to love the daily interaction with my friends, real-life friends and those who I have come to know through the internet.
I love the ease of messaging someone through the In-Box on Facebook…love the fact that they can instantly get the message through their phone…much easier and quicker than email. I love the fact that you can make a Facebook Page for absolutely anything! In today’s world if you have a business a Facebook Page is a must. In fact, I have a Facebook Page for both of my sites.
Build it and they will come…
Ha! Ha! Ha! I certainly wish that this was true, but sadly, it is not! Social Media is a wonderful thing, it is wonderful that anyone can have a Page, but remember...anyone can have a Page! A vicious circle!
Just having a Page is not enough. Knowing how to utilize that Page is key.
I am not an Expert…
In fact, far from it! When I jumped into the world of internet marketing I had no idea how deep the water was. It is DEEP!!! I had no idea what goes into a successful Facebook Page, let alone a website. I was more than clueless… I have attended Facebook seminars and webinars, but was totally unprepared.
Once I got an inkling that I was in over my head I began asking questions of others. (You know, the ones who make this look simple.) But, I was not getting answers, or the answers that I got were so technically above my head I could not understand them! I was so “green” that I did not know the terminology to ask the right questions to get the answers I was searching for.
I am just a normal person…
In a sea of normal people. I know many people, just like me, that are the proud owner of Facebook Pages, blogs, or websites, that have absolutely no clue how deep the water is.
My previous posts about Social Media…
Come from my perspective. I know no other. I research a bit here and there, trying to learn bits and pieces. I am really proud of how far that I have come in a short time, and I know that there is much more to come. I understand that “Sharing” vs. “Liking” on Facebook is a very small part of helping to raise your Google Ranking. I know that it is a very small part in the bigger picture.
Pieces of a Puzzle…
The corners and border pieces of the puzzle are usually the pieces that are put together first, so you can see the big picture. Content of your Page or Website are the border/corner pieces. A necessity. Until you know what the outline looks like you cannot fill it in. Once you see what the picture is supposed to look like you can start putting the smaller pieces into place. The tips that I am sharing are just pieces of the larger picture.
We all know how frustrating it is to put together a puzzle that is missing pieces. Or to attempt to put one together when you have no idea what it is supposed to look like.
As I read about new tips and studies, implement them, and see the results in my statistics…I am sharing them. I am not Eric Enge, Rand Fishkin, Daron Babin, Andy Beal, Andy Beard….all top ranking SEO Experts…according to Google. I am just a normal girl trying to help other normal people that I know with a few tips. The basics. The very basics.
Sometimes when you are accomplished at swimming in the deep end, you forget how it felt when you did not know how to swim. It was scary. Especially when you did not know how deep the water was.
Sometimes when you know what you are doing…you forget how hard it was too start. You teach from the level that you have ascended to, instead of the level of a beginner. Sometimes the experts forget that there is a beginning. And as a beginner I have found it really hard to start in the middle!
So, if you are well versed in Analytics, SEO, Google, Facebook and other Social Media…my articles may be passe or old-hat. I am not an expert…and will never claim to be one…I am still down here in the shallow end…just getting my toes wet!
